Eighth Ward firefighters responded at 3:56am on Saturday morning to an 18-wheeler trailer fire at the entrance of the WalMart Distribution Center. The Firefighters arrived at the scene in three minutes and 30 seconds.

Eighth Ward firefighters responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Interstate 12 today. The F-250 pulling a trailer was headed westbound near the Robert exit when it left the highway for unknown reasons and impacted a tree. Thankfully the sole occupant was not severely injured.

Firefighters were required to utilize stabilizing jacks in order to safely remove the patient from the vehicle.

It is the time of the year when The Eighth Ward VFD performs its annual fire hydrant flow testing. The testing provides the department with the flow pressure and volume of water from each hydrant, as well as reveals hydrants with mechanical problems. The first six months of 2021 have been a busy time for the Department. Our call volume has increased over last year's volume by 35%. It is anticipated that the next six months will be much of the same.
