Firefighters certainly are a versatile group. We received a call from a lady in Lee's Landing that a Blue Heron was stranded in her pond with a fishing line wrapped around its wing. The cane fishing pole was still attached. Firefighters retrieved the Heron from the pond and removed the string. Unfortunately the bird had already suffered a complete break of one of its wings. Evidently the bird had been trapped in the pond for some time as it was completely exhausted.
Numerous calls to area local and state agencies did not yield any hope of assistance. We finally located Wings of Hope in Livingston Parish and they agreed to take the bird in for care and hopefully eventual release to the wild. Captain Luther Dufrene took it upon himself to deliver the bird to Wings of Hope.
Good job guys!
