It's that time of the year again for our open house, and we would like to invite you and your families to join us for a day of fun. Come meet your local firefighters and see all the equipment they use when called to respond. Eighth Ward firefighters responded at 3:56am on Saturday morning to an 18-wheeler trailer fire at the entrance of the WalMart Distribution Center. The Firefighters arrived at the scene in three minutes and 30 seconds.

The trailer was loaded with palletized cardboard boxes of bagged apples and was approximately 100’ on Parkway Boulevard off Highway 190 which caused a massive traffic jam on Highway ... (Full Story & Photos)

No Caption Interstate 12 Motor Vehicle Accident

Chief Ira Brown, Jr, August 10

Eighth Ward firefighters responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Interstate 12 today. The F-250 pulling a trailer was headed westbound near the Robert exit when it left the highway for unknown reasons and impacted a tree. Thankfully the sole occupant was not severely injured.

Firefighters were required to utilize stabilizing jacks in order to safely remove the patient from the vehicle.

HYDRANT TESTING

It is the time of the year when The Eighth Ward VFD performs its annual fire hydrant flow testing. The testing provides the department with the flow pressure and volume of water from each hydrant, as well as reveals hydrants with mechanical problems.
