Two Structure Fire Emergencies in 24 Hours

Three local fire departments recently proved why it is important for departments to train together and to have compatible equipment and standards. Two structure fires within 24 hours in the local area proved this point. Every rural fire department in the parish is required to provide mutual aid to neighboring departments while some departments also have automatic aid.

Blue Heron Rescue

Firefighters certainly are a versatile group. We received a call from a lady in Lee's Landing that a Blue Heron was stranded in her pond with a fishing line wrapped around its wing. The cane fishing pole was still attached. Firefighters retrieved the Heron from the pond and removed the string. Unfortunately the bird had already suffered a complete break of one of its wings. Lee's Landing Fire

Firefighters responded at 11:25pm last night to an unknown type of fire at an unknown location in Lee's Landing. 9-1-1 received a call from someone saying there was a fire in Lee's Landing and then the caller disconnected. I-12 TRACTOR/TRAILER FIRE

Eighth Ward firefighters responded to a tractor-trailer fire last night around 10:00pm on Intersate 12 at mile marker 48 westbound. The flatbed trailer was transporting large transformers and associated equipment when it appears the trailer brakes locked and caught fire.
